Trotters Treasure

Neil Trotter a 41 year old car mechanic, who lives in Coulsdon in South London, was the latest winner of the Euro millions after winning a stunning jackpot of £108 million.

Even though he has won this vast amount of money, he still plans to follow his passion of British touring car racing. The weird thing about him winning is that on Friday lunchtime ( the day before he won ) he told the staff at his fathers office that that time tomorrow he would be a millionaire.

And well...the next day he won! So if you buy a lottery ticket and feel a bit down on your luck then just do what he did. Tell all of your friends at work that soon you'll be a millionaire and see what happens!

Mr.Trotter is the fourth biggest winner of the Euro Millions. He told us: " Being Trotters, we were always going to be millionaires one day!''

This is what happened on the night he found out he was a multi millionaire. He was sat at home when he thought that the lottery draw must be on. So he turned over the channel and watched as one by one he matched his numbers to the numbers shown on the TV until he had all the numbers.

Gobsmacked, he turned to his wife and said that he'd won the lottery. She called him an idiot and told him to stop joking, but he showed his wife the numbers and she started screaming in shock. He turned as white as a sheep at what was going on.

Next, he phoned his dad and told him the news. His father told him to stop being an idiot and to stop drinking. He told him that he hadn't had a drop, and to prove it he went outside and started to drive around. Seeing this, his father realised he was telling the truth and for once his father was lost for words.

Are you feeling lucky? Maybe it's worth buying a ticket for the Euro millions draw and seeing if you can be as lucky as Mr Trotter!

DOG'S OBESITY IS BARKING MAD!

Every day 9 out of 10 owners are feeding loads of fatty treats and tons of junk food to their domestic house pets.

Some of the things causing this obesity are:

1) Alcohol

2) High calorie food

3) Chips

4) Takeaways

5) Biscuits

They feed these foods to their pets even though they know that it is bad for them. Out of the UK's estimated 18 million pets some 2.5 million dogs and over 2 million cats are currently overweight.

The charity that found out these facts, the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA), said this obesity was due to the owners sharing their own bad eating habits with their pets in a well intentioned but misguided attempt to make them happy. Pets in Scotland are the worst affected by this obesity as 72% of owners admitted they give their animals unstable and unsuitable amounts of junk food.

Up next came Wales with 69% of the owners over feeding their pets and third was the North West with 64%. This case is so serious it expected to cut the pets' lifespan by 2 years.

Dogs are man's best friends. Don't hurt them more than you already have.

A taste of your own medicine

As 14 year old Jamie was walking along, she spotted a police car parked on a fire lane (a space reserved for a fire engine to park in cases of emergency), and on the curb.

Shocked at this, she decided to give the police man a taste of his own medicine. She pulled out a piece of paper and wrote the following:

'Violation! You are in violation of Bay Oaths apartment rules

1.Parking in a fire lane

2.Parking on a curb.

Your fine is $10 to our apartment manager, Mrs Jamie.'

This is what the ashamed police man, Tommy King, stated when he got back to his car: 'I came to my car and saw a piece of paper on my windshield. I took it off and started laughing.' In the joking mood, Tommy decided to give the girl a $14.50 Toys R Us gift card.

When the store found out, they matched the money giving the wanna be detective a total of $29 to go crazy with; probably leading to a new career path.

Hopefully this police man has learned his lesson, and if not then Jamie will for sure be there to teach him it.

#Barefacedtrend!

Last Wednesday, the 19th March, #nomakeupselfie and #cancerawareness trended throughout the day on Twitter and Facebook.

People across the UK posted pictures of themselves fresh faced - or in the case of men, with a lot of lipstick, mascara and eye shadow applied!

Cancer research raised £2m in just 48h! This boosts girls’ self-esteem and encourages them to be comfortable with no makeup and their own REAL beauty. We are interviewing Penrice student Mia!“Hi Mia, so have you been involved with no makeup selfie?”“Yes, I have taken many ‘seflies’ and been proud to support breast cancer.”“Do you think that the #nomakeupselfie is for a good cause?

“Absolutely, it is fabulous that the world’s going to raise awareness for a charity!”Even celebrities have been posting them; even celebs with a career of makeup!

The science of sleep

We all do it. But do we take advantage of the wonderful phenomenon that has scientists baffled, until now. Sleep. We spend a third of our lives doing it yet scientists have only just started to understand it and what affects it. We've asked teachers. And students at penrice to see how sleep affects our life.

But why do we sleep? People are beginning to think that we sleep because it is essential to maintaining normal levels of cognitive skills such as speech, memory and innovative thinking. Others say that we sleep to save energy. But this idea has been rejected due to the fact that we only save 50kCal of energy, the same amount in a piece of toast whilst sleeping.

So what can affect it? Well, here's 3 things that scientists think can effect your beauty sleep:

1. Anyone for a nightcap? But do the risks out way the benefits? Although a small amount of alcohol can put you to sleep quicker it can also increase your chances of snoring and disrupts your dreaming. Not only that but it disrupts your night as well. Not cool.

2. We all know that eating cheese before you go to bed gives you night mares but is it true? In 2005 the British Cheese Board asked 200 volunteers to spend a week eating small pieces of cheese before going to bed. They were then asked to report their dreams. The study showed that Stilton causes bizarre dreams, Cheddar makes you dream about celebrities and Red Lester makes you dream about your past. Mmmmmm cheesy!

3. Taking longer to get to sleep? Sleeping for 20 minuets less? Or less soundly? Blame the moon! Scientist have found that on full moon all of those symptoms, for many people, are a problem. Psychologist Richard Wiseman made the discovery as he looked at the results of 1,000 volunteers who were made to listen to different sounds whilst sleeping. Dreams on a full moon become more 'weird and wonderful' said Professor Wiseman.

Whilst those facts are pretty cool, how about these 3 "did you knows...."

1. When you dream you become almost completely paralysed so that you don't hurt yourself acting out your dreams.

2. People who are blind from birth can have dreams in which they can hear, taste and smell but not see anything.

3. Not enough sleep can ruin your waistline. Those people getting 5 hours of sleep or fewer each night are 15% more likely to become obese.

So, sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite!
